I <3 Good ShoesI saw this band for the first time almost a year ago supporting the Young Knives and have to admit being underwhelmed, their songs sounded like watered down Futureheads songs with a vocalist who couldn't decide which dialect to speak in. But, over the course of that year i realised that perhaps my hostility towards Good Shoes was borne out of the fact that deep down I really liked them. So I decided I did like them and investigated them further using the wonders of the internet, the first track I heard was 'Never Meant to Hurt You' , an instant classic and I haven't looked back since. The band released a few ep's last year which are well worth checking out, particularly the 'We are not the Same' ep which comes with some lovely free badges. A bit of info on the band, they're from the South London hellhole of Morden (end of the Northern Line) and are all ridiculously young. They've also remixed tracks by average indie bands such as Maximo Park, who need all the help they can get and they do their own art work right..nuff said about that kinda stuff. This post was all inspired by listening to a few Good Shoes demo track which I recently got hold, such as In the City and my particular favourite 'Morden'. Tracks like these just seem to eco back to the 70s when bands like the Clash were releasing songs which seemed to embody scenes of Urban Desperation and helplessness in songs like 'Lost in the Supermarket' and 'Somebody Got Murdered'. The track 'Morden' by Good Shoes just reminds me so much of all the things to love about music which tries to reference modern culture without wallowing in the mire of mundanity which bands like Hard-Fi and The View seem happy to do. But yes check out this band when they're on tour. Check their myspace for further details and a few tunes. With the imminent release of le Shoes' debut album 'Think Before You Speak' on March 26th, Brille records are being rather gorgeous and giving away a free new Good Shoes Track which can be found by clicking here I am priviledged enough to have heard a couple of tracks off the album promo and have to say that this album is going to be great
